Update on the Castellum Finnslätten situation.

Hello VCC,

As you are aware, we had an incident a couple of weeks ago in which we accidentally caused damage to the Castellum premises at Finnslätten. The VCC members present at the time informed the firemen and other qualified personnel who attempted to carry out some damage control. However, the damage caused by water leakage was considerable, and Castellum has had to refurbish the entire hall flooring and the walls due to the humidity.

Castellum has reported the case to its insurer (Zurich Insurance), who have hired a professional firm (Sedgewick Sweden AB) to assess the damage and its financial implications. The repair is likely to take at least two more months, and the centre court at Castellum is expected to remain closed until April this year. VCC held its first meeting with Castellum last Friday and agreed on the next steps.

Sedgewick has served VCC with a notice stating that, once the damage assessment is completed, VCC will be served with a notice to pay for the damages it is liable for under the contract between Castellum and VCC. VCC has lodged a request with Folksam under the policy available to VCC as a club affiliated with RFSISU. Folksam has now received our request and has started investigating the matter, and will speak with Zurich Insurance in the coming days.

It is difficult to estimate the amounts payable and the liability that will fall on VCC once the assessment is completed. The board is presently cooperating with Folksam and Zurich to resolve this case, hopefully on terms that VCC can live with. However, the final outcome of this discussion will only be known over time.
